The locals say the house belonged to a family that vanished before the swamp reclaimed the land. Others claim it was never built by human hands at all. Old maps show no road leading to it, no property line surrounding it, and no record of anyone ever living there.
Yet lights have been seen beneath the surface.
Voices rise from the water after midnight.
And those who drift too close swear they can hear footsteps moving through rooms that have been drowned for generations.
When the house is finally disturbed, the swamp begins returning things that were meant to stay buried. Photographs appear along the banks. Furniture rises from the mud. Names forgotten by the living are whispered through the cypress trees.
